History Of Mehrangarh Fort :-

Mehrangarh Fort of Jodhpur is a rocky hill that rises 400 feet above the surrounding plain crown, and both the order and appears to meld with the landscape. One of the largest forts in Rajasthan, it contains some of the finest palaces and Indian decent life in their museum preserves many priceless relics.

For five centuries Rathors Mehrangarh Rajput clan known as the senior branch is headquartered. According to the bards, the ruling dynasty of the clan an earlier period (in what is known as Uttar Pradesh) was controlled in Kannauj. Including legendary Prithviraj Chauhan - - like other major medieval Rajput rulers in the late 12th century they were defeated by invaders from Afghanistan. The devastation and disruption that they lead to the migration of early Rajput clans led. Rathors, Marwar, Pali in Rajasthan came to what is now central. It is claimed that they settle animals rustling Brahmin villages to protect local tribes were against. The story may sound utopian, but one of the roles traditionally assigned to the priestly caste Rajputs protection. His work in shifts in the region was expanding power base.

Rao Chunda (r. 1384-1428), to rule in the twelfth Rathore Marwar, Mandore its capital, which he had acquired as a part of the dowry established. Two generations later, Rao Jodha (r. 1438-1489), a fortress on a new site, six miles south to build a high altitude and with better natural defenses began on a different rock. Jodhpur, the city that sprung up on its base, was named after him. Mehrangarh Fort was named, which means "Fort of the sun" - Clan mythical descent from the sun god Surya, a reference to. More than 500 yards long, its walls to a height of 120 feet and 70 feet thick in places rises.

Rao Jodha's successors, these defenses is essential, were adequate, though not always. Rajput clans among the foundations of the fort the following centuries were marked by rivalry and other external threats. A major impact of the Mughals in the area before and after the Delhi Sultanate was asserted. As they build their empire in India, the Mughals and Marwar in Rajasthan like their neighbors sought to subdue the Rajput states, but they did not want to eradicate them. Indian rulers to set the terms of the offer they prefer to support coalition: Empire of the service, he said, and you can maintain control over their ancestral lands. Four generations of rulers of Marwar, between 1581 and 1678, took up the challenge and faithful allies and under the influence of the empire became vassal chiefs. But for decades, both before and after this phase, with the understanding of the Mughals, broke down the fort in Jodhpur city and were overrun, and Rathors guerrilla-style resistance were reduced in their own state. It's easier that border matters such as Bikaner, Jaipur and its relationship with the Rajput states did not even tended to be unstable.

In those volatile times, like Mehrangarh Fort was an object of great power and prestige; In today's context, it would be rather like owning an aircraft carrier. It is, perhaps, a few more were varied; It's just a military base, but it also was not a castle for kings and their wives; Art, music, literature, a center for the preservation; And with its many temples and shrines, it was also a place of worship. These are reflected in several buildings within diverse uses.

Rathore clan and Fort, Maharaja Gaj Singh II, current head of the guardian, to preserve the buildings and the museum as a record of the lives of their predecessors developed. This architectural treasure designed several generations of Marwar and their ancestors have ruled the state, and to ensure that their legacy is maintained and understood that gets to him.
